The Malaysian Transport Ministry, led by Minister Anthony Loke, officially inaugurated the new open payment system for the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) commuter services.
Announced during a ceremony at the Ipoh Railway Station, the system is now operational across 80 stations throughout the Klang Valley and the northern region, Bernama reports.
The new system allows passengers to use debit cards, credit cards, and e-wallets for seamless transactions at automated gates, promising transaction completion times between one to five seconds.
However, these payment options are exclusively available for KTMB’s Komuter lines only. Commuters using the Electric Train Service (ETS) will need to do online booking due to its seat reservation process.
This digitalisation drive by KTMB, fully supported by the Transport Ministry, aims to enhance service accessibility and convenience for commuters nationwide.
KTMB had previously launched the Rail Rewards loyalty programme on 1 January, rewarding passengers with points for every ticket purchase through the KTMB Integrated Ticketing System. These points can be redeemed for future ticket purchases, adding value to the customer experience.
